As school budgets shrank amidst the uncertainty of the pandemic, educators were forced to choose: put their professional learning on hold, or pay their own way.
Radical Learners restores autonomy to the learner by offering high-quality online courses at an educator-friendly price point.

I led the Radical Learners team through brand positioning, identity design, product development, and web design. I also partnered with key stakeholders to collect market research and drive product development—seeing the project through from initial idea to launching our first 7 courses.

Brand Development
The brand identity is driven by the paradox of a “positive radical.” Disparate images are combined to represent new ideas, like the metaphorical and physical connections made when we learn. Bold typography calls to the passion of our audience, resonating with the courageous commitment of the Radical Learner.
Education and art play nicely
Because artfulness is lacking in the competitive landscape, authentic and intriguing imagery was essential to the success of the Radical Learners brand positioning.
Alongside videographer Austin Pulliam and designer Mycaela Erben, we established the art direction for Radical Learner’s video production and created a repeatable process for applying the brand to video, print, and interactive media.
Inspired by street art and collage, course artwork is created by combining two pieces of found imagery into a new composition reflective of the course content.
A new website to house the platform
I designed the Radical Learners website in Adobe XD (before I had learned Figma), and developed the site using Weblflow. A custom CMS system was created to dynamically display important course information such as course instructor, price, topics covered, content outlines, and more. Because long-term sustainability of the Radical Learners project was a key goal, I made sure to create an easy and repeatable process for adding and maintaining the site's content.
